How it works
A life story, one question at a time.
Heritaris is currently being built. Nothing described here is a finished product. It is the principle we’re designing around, and we’d rather explain it honestly than pretend it already exists.

Start with a question
Good stories often begin with questions people rarely think to ask. Not "tell me about your life", which nobody can answer, but "what did your street sound like on a summer evening?", which almost everybody can.
A specific question does the hard work. It gives someone a place to stand, and the memory usually arrives with details attached: names, weather, an argument, a smell.

Answer in your own words
Our vision is to make recording a memory feel closer to having a conversation than writing an autobiography. Speaking is how most people tell a story well. Their pace, their asides and the way they laugh partway through are part of what is worth keeping.
There is no correct length and no order to follow. A two-minute answer is worth preserving.
- Step 03
Build a life story over time
One answer is a memory. Fifty answers, gathered over months, begin to describe a person: what they wanted, who they loved, what they found funny, what they were afraid of, how their mind worked.
We believe this gradual approach is what makes the difference. Nobody sits down and documents a life in an afternoon, but most people can answer one question at a time.

Preserve it for the people who matter
The purpose of all of it is to make those memories reachable by the people they belong to: family now, and family who arrive later.
We want to make it easier for a grandchild to hear a story in the voice of the person who lived it, rather than as a fact repeated third-hand.

You don’t need Heritaris to start. Our resources cover the same ground with tools you already own: a phone, a list of questions and an afternoon.
